Nazr-e-Mannat

Q. How is it to observe a mannat or to make a vow that if one succeeds he will offer such a thing?
A. It is allowed and after observing it is wajib to fulfil it.

Q. Is it wajib to fulfil every mannat ?

A. A mannat which does not go against shari'at and is according to the conditions laid by shari'at should be fulfilled and this is wajib. One must not fulfil a mannat which goes against shari'at.

Q. What are the conditions for a right mannat ?

A. A mannat should be a form of worship. That is, one vows to allah to say two rak'at of prayers, if a certain work is done or to keep fast or give food to so many poor persons or give sadqa of certain amount. The mannat should not be beyond the means and pover of one who observes it, otherwise it will not be proper, i.e., if someone says that if a certain work is done he will give away in charity the goods of another's ship. This mannat is not right because it is not in one's power to give away other's belongings. There are many more conditions which you will read about in bigger books.

Q. How is it to do mannat in the name of a spiritual father or a wali ?

A. A mannat ovserved in any name other than allah's is haram. Mannat is a kind of worship and none other than allah deserves to be worshipped.
