(Tauheed) [the oneness of Allah] Q: what are the bases of Islam ?
A: they are five .
1) hearty belief in the meaning of Kalma Tayyibah or Kalma Shahadat and to express the same orally .
2) saying Namaz .
3) giving Zakat ( aims to the poor) .
4) fasting during the month of Ramadan .
5) performing the hajj.
Q: what is the Kalma Tayyabah and what does it mean?
A: Kalma Tayyibah is : la ila-ha il lal-lah, mu-hum-ma-dur ra-soo-lul-lah, meaning that : there is no god but Allah, Muhammad is his prophet.
Q: what is Kalma Shahadat and what is its meaning ?
A: Kalma Shahadat is : ash-ha-du al-la ila-ha il-lal la-hu wa ash-ha-du an-na mu-hum ma-dan ab-du-hu wa ra-soo-luh: and it means : i testify that there is no god but Allah and i testify that Muhammad is Allah's bondsman and his prophet.
Q: what is meant by tauhid ?
A: hearity believing in the oneness of Allah and proclaiming the same verbally is called tauhid.
Q: how did the human beings know that Allah is one ?
A: first of all the human wisdom (if it is true wisdom) believes that Allah is one and omnipresent. This is why the great, wise and learned men and philosophers believes in the oneness of god. Secondly, all the prophets unanimously taught tauhid to human beings and said that there was none like Allah.
Q: does the holy Quran teach tauhid ?
A: yes, the holy Quran teaches tauhid in a most perfect and excellent way. The holy Quran is today the only book which teaches the oneness of Allah. Though the previous heavenly book also taught tauhid, but in all those books people made alterations (transpositions) and entered things against tauhid and have changed god’s bestowed divine law. To reform this and to preach the real tauhid Allah send Hazrat Muhammad (saw) and revealed to him his book, the holy Quran.
Q: which ayat of the holy Quran prove tauhid ?
A: the holy Quran is full of lessons of tauhid from beginning to end. For instance, the line……
And your god in one god; there is no god but him. The beneficent, the merciful. (sura 11 ayat 163 holy Quran)
Another verse is :
All (himself) is witness that there is no god save him. And the angels and the men of learning 9too are witness). Maintoining his creation in justice, there is no god save him, the al-mighty, the wise. (111, 18)
And :
Say : he is Allah, the one. (cx11, 1)
Q: what is the personal name of Allah ?
A: Allah. This is called ism-e-zat or ism-e-zati.
Q: what are Allah's other names such as Khaliq , Raziq , etc., called ?
A: these names of Allah are called ism Sifati.
Q: what is meant by ism Sifati ?
A: Sifati means qualitative . Allah has many qualities . For instance : Qadim (existing from eternity to eternity). Alim, the all knowing, Qadir, the all powerful, Haiya, living, etc. Any name which tells of the qualities of Allah is a sifati name. To make it clear, here is an example. There is a man whose name is Jameel. This name has been given to him for identity but it does not show his quality. If he is learned and has learnt the holy Quran by heart, he is called Alim (learned) and hafiz (learnt the Quran by heart) also. These are his sifati names. Jameel is his personal name. His qualitative names are given to him because he is learned and he has learnt the holy Quran by heart. In the same wat, Allah is a personal name and khaliq, Qadir, Alim and Laik are his qualitative names.
Q: if Allah has only one personal name, Allah, then how many qualitative names has he ?
A: in the holy Quran, Allah says :
"Allah’s are the fairest names. Invoke him by them" ( viii, 180)
Sayings of Muhammad (s.a.w.w):
"Doubtless Allah has 99, 100 nameless one". (Bukhari)
